Match Report

Match Report, Coggeshall Town v HullbridgeSports 13th March 2024.
Essex Senior League, Premier Division.

Attn 42

Coggeshall kicked off and attacked from the start and early on Nathan Dennis appeared to be brought down in the penalty area, but the referee waived play on. Izaih Antoine combined with Lester Ward well but Ward’s shot went wide, and Dennis and Antoine set up Alfie Gilbey but his shot was deflected for a corner. Roy Stevens attacked from the right and although the ball ended up in the net, the goal was disallowed as Antoine was deemed to be interfering with play by obstructing their keeper’s view. Hullbridge began to get into the match, Sam Bantick was tackled by Conor Tyrell when through while efforts from Billy Willis, and Sherimandin Artmeladze were wide of the goal. Back came Coggeshall as Ward shot wide, Antoine’s shot was blocked, Ward sent in a quality cross, headed clear and Antoine headed over the bar from a corner. Hullbridge came back as Artmeladze had his header claimed by Dev Bhamra, following a cross from Willis, Oluwatobi Coker shot across the goal, Artmeladze’s shot blocked by Jack Wilson and Bhamra got the better of Artmeladze in a one on one. As the half came to a close, Jack Hauser’s long range sot was saved by Braley Davison. HT 0-0 In the first minute Dennis brought out a good save from Davison forcing a corner.. Hullbridge’s Willis shot wide, Demmy Nicolauo cleared a freekick and Bhamra saved from the feet of Bantick. Antoine’s shot was parried and first to react was Dennis who put his effort wide. Hullbridge made a substitution after 62 minutes, replacing Artmeladze with Jonathon Evans, which gave them a boost with Bantick, Samuel Owusu, Evans and Oscar Onuorah trying to break the deadlock. Coggeshall took off Antoine for Reggie Pegrum after 73 minutes and two minutes later Hullbridge swopped Michael Agboola for Mason Williams. Gilbey was fouled about 25 yards out but Nicolauo’s freekick was saved by Davison. Tayo Adedoja replaced Dennis after 79 minutes and the withdrawal of both of Coggeshall’s front runners seemed to upset their rhythm of play. The remainder of the match saw Hullbridge on top without creating clear cutchances. One moment of humour for the spectators happened three minutes from normal time when Hullbridge’s Alfie Whiteaker and Williams tackled each other near the touchline. Hullbridge made another substitution on 90 minutes, bringing on Leo Wood for James King. The match ended after a Hullridge corner was too long, going out for a goal kick. Both sets of supporters thought that the referee was poor, even the Hullbridge X (Twitter) feed stated that the referee needs to get a grip and that this is the worst referee they’ve had all season, although they did withdraw this after a couple of hours. For Coggeshall, it was two points lost rather than one gained.
