Match Report

The SeedGrowers kicked off their league campaign by hosting Grays Athletic at West Street. A hot day made for a heated fixture which saw the away side threaten from the get go as former red, Sam Bantick, swung a cross in that was met by a misplaced header.

Rob Clark was subbed off just short of fifteen minutes after sustaining an injury and was replaced by Ronnie Winn. Later on Pedulu found room as he broke through down the right side, a save from Grays meant the ball fell to Oyenuga, who was unable to bury the rebound. The same man was booked on the brink of half time for an attacking challenge.

Lewis Clark found himself on the receiving end of a yellow card as tensions began to rise, soon followed by a tactical change for the away side through the introduction of Josh Osude, who replaced Aron Gordon. In the other dugout, Shamido Pedulu made way for Skirmantas Bulauka – The following substitution saw Kris Oti replace debutant Luke Hirst. Grays made a change with ten minutes to go as both sides were yet to break the deadlock, along with Cliff Akurang calling Marty Gage into the mix as he replaced Cesario Mendez.

Martin Onoabhagbe made a wonderful sliding challenge to regain possesion of the ball, as Grays continued to press for a late winner. A scramble in the box was cleared, leaving fans shocked that the away side hadn’t broken through, still George stayed strong between the sticks. Finally, a late effort from Bantick deflected wide, squandering hopes of three points for travelling supporters.
