Match Report

The Seedgrowers travelled to Park Lane on a cold afternoon, as they took on an in form Canvey side with a fantastic league record. Things preceded quickly as both sides made advances towards goal with some fantastic, fast paced football. Former red Matt Price instigated the afternoon’s first big opportunity as the Gulls forward came one-on-one with Matt Cafer, before slipping in the box to squander what was a clear cut chance to go ahead. Jermaine Francis then caught a long ball down the right wing in impressive fashion as he layed it off to Balogun, and then to Teniola whose attempt was blocked by a quick thinking Canvey defence. The home side’s Rob Girdlestone was forced off by an injury he picked up going in for a challenge, and was replaced by Ben Sampayo. Later Teniola headed the ball just wide of the post as he connected well with the ball that had been crossed in. Ayrton Coley soon after also drew wide of the woodwork with a free kick that startled Canvey’s back line.

Half time: Canvey Island 0 – 0 Coggeshall Town

A slow start to the second half was somewhat void of action until Isaac Skubich was booked in the fifty-eighth minute for a late challenge made in frustration. The Seedgrowers then looked set to go ahead as they twice in succession hit the crossbar with a flurry of headed efforts, before being ruled offside by the linesman. The Gulls weee then cautioned twice in the space of five minutes as both Empochontsif and Finnerman were shown a yellow card. Jamal Balogun then made way for Olumide Akinde and Callum Fitzer replaced Harrison Chatting for the home side. Shortly after the substitute fired home with just two minutes of normal time to spare as he sent Canvey into the lead. Both sides then looked to the bench, but the reds could not find an equaliser, with the game finishing with a win to the home side.
