Match Report

The SeedGrowers travelled up to Lowestoft for the third time in eight days as the replayed their previously abandoned FA Trophy Fixture against Gorleston.

Christy Finch opened the scoring just shy of twenty minutes as he put the home side in front. It took another twenty minutes on the clock before Coggeshall responded through Daniel Ogunleye who levelled the scoreline before the referee’s half time whistle sounded.

Half time – Gorleston 1 Coggeshall Town 1.

It was an even start to the second half as the game flowed from end to end. Gorleston looked to the bench with half an hour remaining as Kyle Ingram replaced Joe Corby. Jamie Bennett was shown a yellow card soon after by the referee Thomas Harvey. Gorleston then made a second change through Mitchel Mckay who replaced Angus Mackie.

Josh Hughes was caution in the eighty-first minute and Gorleston’s Samuel Ellis following into the referee’s book five minutes later. On eighty-six minutes, Town made their first substitution with four minutes of the match remaining, Skirmantas Baluka coming on to replace Jamie Bennett in hopes of boosting the attacking effort in a Ffinal push. Sadly he picked up a knock soon after and had to be replaced by Kris Oti, as manager Cliff Akurang feared penalties were in order. Oli Bell also made way for Marty Gage in injury time.

With the game going straight to penalties the  SeedGrowers settled down to take an excellent set of penalties, backed up by a great save of Gorleston’s last penalty by Akan George which saw Town run out 7 – 6 winners and move into the second round tie away to New Salamis.

Full time – Gorleston 1 Coggeshall Town 1 (Coggeshall win 7 – 6 on penalties).
