Match Report

With both teams in search of points early on this season, welcoming Maldon to West Street was always going to be an interesting fixture. The away side were sat rock bottom of the table with zero points at the time of the game, with Coggeshall in only a slightly better position.

An early attempt from Freddie King showed promise as a remarkably powerful shot went just wide of the left-hand side of the post. Down the other end, the SeedGrowers cleared a close effort as Maldon looked to open the scoring. Jammer Scott Kemp was shown a yellow card after he shoved Craig Ferguson into the barriers. A few good opportunities for the reds followed as Freddie King saw a number of chances meet his feet in the box.

Maldon’s Dombaxe received a yellow card for dissent after berating the referee for a penalty – Akan George had come out to claim the ball, and did so cleanly, yet the away side seemed to see things differently as the forward made the most of an impressive challenge.

Half time: Coggeshall Town 0 – 0 Maldon & Tiptree.

Our defence sprung back into work almost instantly as George was once again forced to make an impressive save, tipping the ball over the crossbar following on from a well-worked attack from the Jammers. Akurang looked to the bench ten minutes into the second half, as Nathan Fuma made way for Cameron Forde-Brown. Winger Junior Nkwonka made hard work for the opposition goalkeeper, as his attempt from distance kept the shot-stopper alert. Middlehurst was soon after shown a yellow card as he handled the ball outside his box.

A great move for the SeedGrowers was flagged for offside shortly after scraping the woodwork, a narrow escape for the away team. Previously cautioned Scott Kemp was substituted for Kamani McFarlane with fifteen minutes to go, followed shortly by captain, Laste Dombaxe, as he narrowly escaped a sending off prior to the change. His rash challenge looked certain to see him removed from the game, but the referee refrained from showing him a red card. Coggeshall once again looked to the bench as time ran short, with Skirmantas Bulauka replacing Charlie Heatley in a late effort to turn the tide of the fixture.

Martin Onoabhagbe denied the away side once again with a superb challenge, and as proceedings began to frustrate the Jammer’s bench, the assistant manager was shown a straight red card after he attempted to attack the senior linesman. The fixture ended goalless, earning Maldon their first point of the season.

Full time: Coggeshall Town 0 – 0 Maldon & Tiptree.
