Match Report

Coggeshall welcomed Basildon United to West Street on the 5th of February, with both sides in pursuit of points being at the bottom end of the table. The away side held the majority of possesion for a good fifteen minutes of the game, as the Seedgrowers seemed to struggle to keep the ball. The bees had been the most threatening side by some margin, shown soon after by their opening goal, with Wright effortlessly slotted home from a difficult angle.

Half time: Coggeshall Town 0 – 1 Basildon United

George Cocklin was replaced by Tariq Issa as part of a half time substitution, Coggeshall saw a few chances pass by as Harrison struck both the crossbar and the post in the same strike, and Kehinde was unable to convert following on from a piercing throughball from Jamal Balogun. Kehinde was taken off in the place of Alex Teniola, as the reds continued to search for an equaliser. Joe Wright soon put a dampener on things as he doubled Basildon’s lead as he grabbed a second goal at the same time. Harrison then made way for Byrne-Hewitt after forcing a save from the away side’s shotstopper. A free kick on the edge of the box was awarded to the Seedgrowers, and Ayrton Coley stepped up to take the attempt. He swung the ball around the side of the wall, placing the ball brilliantly into the top right corner. Basildon were then able to see out their lead despite the late efforts of the reds.
